Partners and Commitment

  • The Northern Cape Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Conservation and Department of Tourism, Environment and Conservation, have formed strategic partnerships with the following institutions to ensure that the provincial tourism industry increases its contribution to the provincial economy:
  • Northern Cape Economic Development Agency. This Agency is a partnership initiative between the Northern Cape Government and the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa Limited.  It is mandated to contribute to the acceleration of the provincial economy.
  • Northern Cape Tourism Authority. This Institution is tasked with promoting the Northern Cape as a tourism destination.
  • Local Authorities. Our municipalities are our most valuable partners, as they not only possess assets (“green fields” and “brown fields”) that could be utilised for creating tourism-related infrastructure, but they could also contribute much to such development via their local economic development (LED) and integrated development (IDP) plans.
  • Private Sector. The Northern Cape Government is committed to work side by side with the private sector and it recognises the important contribution to be made by investors and developers.

The Northern Cape government is prepared to contribute to the funding of feasibility studies for the above mentioned opportunities.  In addition, the Northern Cape Economic Development Agency would consider facilitating the funding and feasibility, environmental impact assessments and implementation phases, depending on the merit of each of the proposals submitted.

As a further sign of the Northern Cape government’s commitment to grow and develop the provincial tourism industry, it has funded or co-funded the following valuable studies already completed:

  • Develop a Tourism Master Plan for the development and promotion of tourism in the Northern Cape.
  • Economic impact of tourism on the Northern Cape economy (Northern Cape Tourism Satellite Account).
  • Investigation of tourism investment opportunities in the Northern Cape.
  • Created a completely new brand for the Northern Cape as a tourism destination.
  • Tourism skills audit and skills development plan.
  • Tourism training needs analysis.
  • Implemented a tourism mentorship programme.
  • Study on tourism road signage and creation of tourism routes.
