The Wildebeestkuil Rock art site is known for its more than 400 rock engravings that are between 800 and 1200 years old. A small visitor centre and boardwalk was built at the site to facilitate access to rock art sites. Because of the growing tourist arrivals to Kimberley an opportunity existed to further develop this centre to a world class facility.
The project involves the expansion of Wildebeeskuil Rock Art and information center to accommodate areas for live cultural performances, artists at work, children entertainment, film auditorium, a retail area and general recreational tourist activities.
This attraction will also create an opportunity and or gateway for the development of other closely located rock sites such as the Nooitgedacht glacial paving.
Since the Wildebees Kuil belongs to the Xun and Khwe Communcal Property Association the project is to benefit the community of !Xun and Kwe community.
The feasibility study for the project is already completed and has proven to be a viable project idea if recommendation outlined in the Feasibility study is followed. This development requires capital injection of between R6 to R8 million. |
